We’ve noticed that some of the places we visit are for tourists, and some places cater for backpackers too. Like Japan was a tourist place. India felt like a mix. Nepal more backpackers.

Here feels a bit more for tourists. Little things like at Mulu national park there’s air con in the rooms (yes please!), safe drinking water (I think thats mostly due to them wanting to avoid single use plastic). Even the loos in the cafe have air con and loo roll! All the ice in Malaysia has to have a certificate to say it uses safe water.

Rubbish on the beaches and coastline, rivers etc is really sad. Much like India, there’s no rubbish collection. It just pollutes everything. Good lord if this trip is teaching me anything, its that single use plastic is unnecessary and the worst.

Our equipment is dying a death! Our filter water bottle has a hole in the straw bit so you have to screw the massive lid off to drink or it feels like you’re drinking air! Our clothes are stinky, even after washing them. We are def burning them on our doorstep at home!

We have learnt that we live our stuff everywhere – it seems to now be every place we stay. Even though we do full recces of each room we leave. Go figure! I’m going to make a list at some point.
